Symposium on the energy transition

Symposium: energy transition, yes - but how?

Energiewendesymposium: Diskussion im voll besetzten Max-Buchner Saal

The working group "public relations" of the Senior Expert Chemists discussed for some time on chemistry topics that are relevant to society is of great importance. This includes plastic waste, glyphosate, NO x limit value, electromobility and, of course, the energy transition.

The symposium was organized by the GDCh together with DECHEMA and the VCI and took place on October 30, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the fully occupied Max Buchner Hall of DECHEMA in Frankfurt. A »flyer provided information about the program and the background. The event was moderated by Klaus-Peter Jäckel, Spokesman for the Senior Expert Chemists.

The aim of the symposium was to convey the necessity of the energy transition from an ecological, technical, economic, political and industrial point of view. The focus should be on what is feasible, close to reality and without an ideological perspective. To convey this goal, we have invited four prominent speakers with the following topics:

  • Prof. Dr. Ing.Manfred Fischedick, Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment & Energy:
Ecological and technical aspects of the energy transition - challenges but also opportunities
  • Prof. Dr. Ferdi Schüth, MPI Mühlheim-Ruhr
Technical possibilities for generating and storing sustainable renewable energies
  • Prof. Dr. Dr. hc mult. Hans-Werner Sinn, President emeritus ifo, Munich
Possibilities and limits of the German energy transition e
  • Dr. Jörg Unger, BASF SE:
    BASF's carbon Management program
  •

The event was reported in the Nachrichten aus der Chemie: Nachr. Chem. 2019, 67 (12), 84 .
