The 2023 PhD Seminar on chemistry of construction materials took place on the grounds of the European Youth Education and Meeting Center Weimar. Nine doctoral students took advantage of this opportunity to exchange scientific ideas and present their doctoral themes. In addition to the scientific exchange, the program included a barbecue evening, an afternoon walk to famous Bauhaus sites, a visit to the "Schmale Handtuch" (a Weimar institution that has been tapping beer for thirsty people - including many students - for more than 100 years) and a tour of the laboratories of the Professorship of chemistry of construction materials and Polymer Materials, which are equipped with the latest testing and analysis technology.

program
After the successful events from 2007 to 2011 in Weimar, the Division of the Chemistry of Construction Materials was able to take part this year from 11th to 13th. May at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences – Technology and Economics will once again offer a seminar for doctoral students. In addition to the visit to the Sika headquarters in Stuttgart and the tour of the Stuttgart 21 construction site, the focus of the 2.5-day meeting was the seminar with specialist lectures on the participants' current research topics. After the lectures, there was time for intensive exchange between the participants and with the supervising professors. In the final workshop, in addition to the first steps after the doctorate, career planning and application, the current area of tension between scientific work and taking on teaching tasks during the doctorate was discussed and with Dr. Saskia Oehmichen, a representative of the “NextStep” platform of Deutsche chemistry of construction materials , was openly discussed.
