The companies HC Starck Tungsten GmbH (Goslar) and TANIOBIS (Goslar; formerly: HC Starck Tantalum & Niobium GmbH) alternately sponsor the award for the best doctoral thesis in the field of inorganic Solid-State Chemistry and Materials Research . The prize is awarded annually by the Solid State Chemistry & Materials division of the German Chemical Society (GDCh).
Since 2016, the division been awarding this prize every two years to personalities who have achieved outstanding scientific achievements in the field of solid state chemistry and materials research. The name lecture usually comprises four lectures, the first of which is usually given directly after the award ceremony on the occasion of the specialist group conference .
A limited number of poster prizes are awarded on the occasion of the specialist group conferences .
The Wilhelm-Klemm-Foundation annually awards a doctoral prize for an outstanding doctoral thesis in the field of inorganic solid-state chemistry.
