2014 GSI

Art Nouveau and Ion Source

The technology tour of the GDCh's Senior Expert Chemists in 2014 again went to Darmstadt and the surrounding area. This tour was also carried out together with the retired VAA members of the Wolfgang Industrial Park. This time the program included the newly opened Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt (HLMD) and the Society for Heavy Ion Research (GSI) north of Darmstadt.

HLMD. The Hessian State Museum was fundamentally renovated from 2007 to 2014, so that Alfred Messel's architecture shines in a fresh splendour. The presentation of the collections has been redesigned both structurally and in terms of content. The HLMD offers us two tours: (1) general overview of the redesign of the building and the collections and (2) tour with a focus on Art Nouveau (max. 25 people each).

GSI. The GSI Helmholtz Center for Heavy Ion Research in Darmstadt operates a large, globally unique accelerator facility for ions. Researchers from all over the world use the facility for experiments to gain new insights into the structure of matter and the development of the universe. In addition, they develop novel applications in medicine and technology. Highlights are the various research facilities, radiation therapy and the new major FAIR construction site.
