Young Water Forum

Young Water Forum of the Society of Water Chemistry

Who we are - What we do

The Young Water Forum (JWF) is an association of young researchers within the Society of Water Chemistry, a Division of the German Chemical Society (GDCh). The idea for such a forum was first conceived during WASSER 2024 in Limburg an der Lahn. In addition to providing opportunities for networking and exchange, the JWF offers the opportunity to contribute one's own ideas and visions to the Society of Water Chemistry .

Would you like to become a member of the JWF or even get actively involved? Then send us an email to JWF@go.gdch.de

There is no age limit. All students, doctoral candidates, postdocs, and scientists in their career planning and development who feel a sense of belonging and can benefit from the opportunities offered are welcome. We also explicitly encourage international researchers to get involved.

Career lunch

At WASSER 2025 in Münster, the JWF was represented for the first time with its own program. Before the start, we met in the city for an interactive escape game, and during the Conference, we hosted the first career lunch:

Idea: The career lunch offers an opportunity to exchange ideas with the speakers in a small group and ask questions. The focus is not (only) on the respective research, but also on individual careers, international experiences, the concept of science, everyday work, tips and advice, and basically anything that interests JWF members. The career lunch is intended to offer a type of exchange that is not the focus of specialist presentations or networking activities. Questions were collected in advance, which the speakers answered in short keynote speeches. Afterwards, there was time for further questions.

Speaker: For the Career Lunch 2025, we were able to invite PD Dr. Elisabeth Janssen from EAWAG, deputy head of the department "environmental chemistry of Biomolecules and Macromolecular Pollutants", and Dr. Alexander Weizel, group leader "Chemical Analysis and Research" at Rheinenergie AG.

Who can register: Basically, anyone who thinks they would benefit from the exchange. There's no age limit. If you're unsure, just show up and give it a try. Membership in the Society of Water Chemistry is required to participate in the event. A quick tip: it's free for students and doctoral candidates.

Other: Since the career lunch takes place during the lunch break, food and drinks will be provided.

We're looking forward to the 2nd Career Lunch during WASSER 2026 in Kiel. Please let us know your preferred speakers at JWF@go.gdch.de.

We are very pleased that the JWF receives so much support from the Board, that we can contribute our ideas and suggestions and thus give the younger generation a voice.
