Review of the Young Professionals Forum

Review of the Young Talent Forum 2026

Growing together, researching together!

A heartfelt thank you to all 17 participants from different locations – from Bielefeld to Göttingen and even Austria! – who met on March 24, 2026, for the first Young Researchers' Forum of the German Society for Chemistry Education (DiCE). A wonderful mix of curiosity, experience, and a shared goal: to shape the future of chemistry education – together, networked, and with a focus on young researchers.

What happened?
After warm greetings and personal introductions, the focus shifted directly to the future:
Writing weekend: May 8–10, 2026 in Bielefeld – time for ideas, texts and exchange in a circle of like-minded people.
Social Hour: May 15 & October 5, 2026 | 2–3 pm – short breaks, big conversations.
Young researchers meet at the FGCU Annual Meeting: September 23, 2026 in Göttingen – a highlight we can't wait for!

The discussions were deep, honest, and inspiring:

  • How can you publish your doctoral thesis cost-effectively?
  • What differences exist between the locations and how can we develop common strengths from them?
  • What are the financial hurdles during the doctoral phase and how can we work together to find solutions?
We'll start a little research: Are there funding opportunities for doctoral students in their final stages?
  • What is the best path: Ref → Research or Ref → Work → Secondment or Research → Ref?
→ The majority agreed: Linking research and practice is the key. However, reality is often complex – authorities, permits, bureaucratic hurdles.
  • Teaching hours, for example in the LemaS initiative, already contribute a great deal to linking theory and practice, but: these people rarely do research themselves.
    Can this change?
Yes! New research models in educational research could be an enrichment here, especially if they are participatory, practice-oriented and geared towards young researchers.

Our goal?
We collect your tips, tricks, and experiences – on publishing, funding, and research practice – and make them available on our Young Researchers Working Group website. Your voice counts, and your experiences are valuable.

We are more than just doctoral students, postdocs, and junior professors. We are a community that conducts research, networks, supports one another, and jointly develops chemistry education.
