Working Group Archaeometry

The Working Group Archaeometry (AKA) of the GDCh Division of Analytical Chemistry was founded in 1975 and deals with aspects of the natural sciences, engineering, and humanities relating to the processing of cultural-historical questions, as well as with the research and conservation of cultural working group .

 

• deepens mutual understanding between the different scientific disciplines,
• promotes contacts and exchange of experience among members as well as with members of the GNAA (Society for Scientific Archaeology ARCHAEOMETRY) and the DMG (German Mineralogical Society),
• facilitates partnerships for the joint processing of issues and
• Provides comprehensive information about activities in the field of archaeometry.

In 2026, the working group awarded the Gerhard Schulze Young Scientist Prize for the first time to recognize outstanding theses in the field of archaeometry. The aim of the prize is to promote young scientists, provide them with networking opportunities, and increase the visibility of archaeometry .
