Synthetic biology encompasses various disciplines within the natural and life sciences and involves the design of biological networks, systems, or even entire cells that do not occur in nature. Since 2020, the corresponding scientific activities of the four sponsoring societies have been consolidated under the umbrella of the Joint Division .

  • German Botanical Society (DBG),
  • German Chemical Society (GDCh),
  • Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (GBM) and
  • German Society for Chemical Engineering and biotechnology (DECHEMA).

The joint Division is open to all members of the sponsoring societies without additional membership fees. It is not a Division as defined by the GDCh statutes.
