Division of Synthetic Biology

Joint Working Group Synthetic Biology

Website of the Division

Synthetic biology encompasses various disciplines of the natural and life sciences and involves the design of biological networks, systems or even entire cells that do not occur in nature.

In January 2020, DECHEMA and the Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (GBM) agreed to merge the activities of the Systems Biology and Synthetic Biology Division and the GBM Synthetic Biology Study Group into the Joint Synthetic Biology Division. In February 2021, the German Chemical Society (GDCh) joined the agreement; in June 2021, the German Botanical Society (DBG) joined.

Your contact within the GDCh: If you are interested and/or have any questions, please contact Dr. Christina E. Weinberg (Institute of Biochemistry at the University of Leipzig).

Membership: The joint Division is open to all members of the participating societies without additional membership fees. GDCh members simply fill out the application for personal membership (electronically fillable PDF) and send it to the GDCh member service.

The Joint Working Group Synthetic Biology is not a Division within the meaning of the GDCh statutes.
