The future of chemistry

Future chemistry - perspectives on the world of tomorrow

Medicines and therapies, sustainability and product development as well as energy and raw materials - the future holds many challenges in store for us. This results in questions and conflict scenarios for which it is important to find viable answers and solutions. The event "Future Chemistry - Perspectives on the World of Tomorrow", organized by the GDCh and the Infraserv Höchst is organized.

The event "Future Chemistry - Perspectives on the World of Tomorrow" will take place on September 30, 2016, from 9:00 am (registration from 8:00 am) in the Höchst industrial park near Frankfurt.

Greetings from GDCh President Prof. Dr. Thisbe K. Lindhorst

Dear Sirs and Madames,

What can chemistry do for our lives, what responsibility do chemists have for our future? What do we have to do and what should we leave behind so that future generations are not worse off than ours? Thinking about such questions is what I have called ?value thinking in chemistry?.

Various initiatives by the German Chemical Society (GDCh) are currently focusing on values in chemistry. The event "Future Chemistry - Perspectives on the World of Tomorrow" deals with the importance of chemistry for human health, the sustainable use of resources and the topic of energy and climate: Problems that are among the great challenges of our time.

This is where chemistry meets society. ?Chemistry and Society? is a young Working Group. It corresponds to our claim to be a community of responsibility and values in chemistry: that is the GDCh!

?Future Chemistry - Perspectives on the World of Tomorrow? aims to motivate the dialogue between chemistry and civil society. We encourage science and politics, business and the public to think together about key issues of our time in the context of research and innovation. Strengthening such an exchange between chemistry and society is an important concern for me and the Working Group ?Chemistry and Society? in the GDCh. We would like to provide information on controversial topics from the perspective of chemistry, but also to listen and discuss openly.

I hope you are with us!
I wish you an interesting and inspiring event.
