Chemical Safety Expert Panel

Expert committee on chemical safety of the GDCh and GT

The chemical safety expert committee of the GDCh and GT is supported by the German Chemical Society (GDCh) and the Society for Toxicology (GT). It was founded in 2008 and is based at the headquarters of the GDCh management in Frankfurt.

tasks

The main task of the expert panel is the development of concepts and strategies for assessing the safety of humans and the environment with regard to chemical substances. The committee is available to provide scientific advice to authorities, industry and other social institutions in this regard. This applies in particular to the design and prioritization of corresponding research and training activities as well as measures to promote young talent. The main focus areas include the analysis and evaluation of the following instruments for assessing chemical safety, especially in Environmental Chemistry, Toxicology and ecotoxicology:

  • Experimental test procedures,
  • alternative test methods (e.g. in vitro methods, molecular biological methods),
  • theoretical methods (e.g. conclusions by analogy, substance group systematics, QSAR, exposure models),
  • Systems for the classification of chemical substances (e.g. POP, PBT, vBvT, CMR),
  • Material flows and life cycle of chemical substances, and
  • integrated test strategies including associated step concepts.

Further tasks exist in connection with the assessment and design of measures to reduce exposure. Members
