Chemistry is exciting and fascinating. And you can often see this - in the form of beautiful crystals, colored substances or highly symmetrical X-ray diffraction diagrams. Chemists are highly qualified and do demanding work in the laboratory, at the desk and on the computer. And they not only have fun at work, but also at the laboratory party or the institute's barbecue party. We want to show all of this in our photo competition. We are looking for new pictures for our website (www.gdch.de) and invite you to send us your favorite pictures from chemistry. Everything to do with chemistry is allowed. Do you have nice microscope photos of your crystals? A ?still life? with handwritten notes from the laboratory notebook next to sample tubes and protective goggles? Submit your photos to us. Or would you like to show how chemistry accompanies our everyday life? Take part. We are particularly interested in recordings that show people in connection with chemistry. Whether students in the laboratory, the professor in the lecture, the lecturer at the computer, laughing, hard-working, perhaps disappointed chemists or children experimenting with dish soap and table salt - everything is welcome. The institute's soccer tournament, the laboratory party with nitrogen-cooled beer or activities on the open day are also suitable for showing that chemistry is fun. Take part in the GDCh photo competition. Participation is open to everyone who feels connected to chemistry, members and non-members. The submitted images will be published on this GDCh website. The images that our jury selects for the landing pages (see below) will also be awarded prizes between 400 and 100 euros (see conditions of participation). Eligible persons
All persons who feel connected to chemistry are eligible to participate. Underage participants need the consent of their legal guardian. Members of the GDCh board of directors and the GDCh Managing Directors or the jury are not allowed to participate. Other employees of the GDCh Office are allowed to take part, but if they win, they will not receive any prize money, but a gift.
Professional photographers are not permitted.

Publication of photos
Each participant agrees that the photos submitted and the names of the respective photographers will be published in the context of reporting on the competition on the Internet or in the ?Nachrichten aus der Chemie?. This is true regardless of whether they win a prize or not. The jury decides on the publication. There is no legal entitlement to publication.
The jury reserves the right to exclude photos with illegal or otherwise offensive content from the competition without notifying the sender.

Prices
Six prizes will be awarded:
1st prize: Euro 400.00
2nd prize: Euro 300.00
3rd prize: Euro 250.00
4th to 6th prize: EUR 100.00 each
The award of the prizes takes place in such a way that after the end of the competition the GDCh and the awardee conclude a contract for the use of the photos. The winners grant the GDCh the right to publish the images on their website and, if necessary, other suitable media (brochures, flyers, folding displays, etc.) for an unlimited period of time, space and content. For this, the awardee a fee equal to the amount of the respective prize money.
If they win, GDCh employees do not receive a fee, but grant the GDCh the right of use free of charge.

Submission of photos
Each participant can submit up to three photos.
Participation is only possible by sending an email to pr@gdch.de with the subject "Photo competition". Submissions by other means (e.g. CD-ROM) or to other GDCh e-mail addresses will not be considered. Each submitted image must contain the first and last name of the author in the file name, e.g. Bild1_max_mustermann.jpg.
Pho tos must not be sent in a single ZIP file. For security reasons, ZIP files are deleted unopened.

Formats of the submitted images
Only digital recordings are accepted. Further requirements:
? Format at least 2400 x 1600 pixels, landscape format
? Resolution at least 300 dpi
? File formats JPG, JPEG, TIFF
In order to be shown to their best advantage on the GDCh website, images ideally have a clear contrast between the motif and the image background. The motif should be suitable for use on a green background.

Image and usage rights
By submitting photos, each participant confirms that he is the author of the photos and thus has the unrestricted copyrights and rights of use to the photos. The participant further confirms that the photos submitted are free of third party rights, for example the right to their own image (in the case of photos of people), trademark rights, license rights, competition rights or copyrights.
Each participant assures that all recognizably depicted persons agree to the submission of the photo to the GDCh photo competition. For children and adolescents under the age of 18, the consent of both parents or legal guardians is required. At the request of the GDCh, the participant is obliged to present the written consent of the persons depicted or their legal guardians. If he cannot provide this approval, the images in question can be excluded from the competition.

The deadline for entries is October 31, 2017, midnight
The jury's decision should be made by December 15, 2017. The winners will be notified promptly.
