The 2025 Prize for Bioconversion of Renewable Resources goes to Dr. Daniel Eggerichs. In his doctoral thesis, he investigated the utilization of lignin monomers for the production of bioplastics using Rhodococcus jostii RHA1. He gained important insights into 4-phenoloxidases, which enable the conversion of lignin building blocks. He also made significant contributions to the metabolism of R. jostii RHA1 and developed a deep understanding of group E flavoprotein monooxygenases. The significant gain in knowledge in the utilization of lignin building blocks demonstrates a high degree of innovation.
