EuChemS

European Chemical Society (EuChemS)

The GDCh is the second largest member of the European Chemical Society (EuChemS).

EuChemS is an association of scientific societies and professional associations in the field of chemistry. It currently has 50 societies from Europe as members, representing a total of more than 130,000 chemists across Europe. In addition to the GDCh, the German Bunsen Society is also represented in EuChemS.

EuChemS is the successor organisation to the Federation of European Chemical Societies (FECS), which was founded in 1970 with significant involvement of the GDCh.

The scientific activities of EuChemS, in particular conferences, networking, etc., are ensured by the corresponding divisions and working parties. The GDCh sends German representatives to these bodies.

  • A main activity of EuChemS is the organisation of the EuChemS Chemistry Congresses (ECC), which are held every two years. The first congress took place in August 2006 in Budapest. This was followed by congresses in Turin 2008, Nuremberg 2010, Prague 2012, Istanbul 2014, Seville 2016, Liverpool 2018, Lisbon 2022 and Dublin 2024. The 10th EuChemS Chemistry Congress will take place in Antwerp in July 2026.
