What are Name Lectures?

The German Chemical Society , together with international partner organizations, has set up a series of named lectures that are given as a special award to important scientists in the respective country. The aim of the lectures on names is to establish scientific relationships   intensify between countries.

The most traditional of these on-name lectures is the August-Wilhelm-von-Hofmann-Lecture, based on which the GDCh has set up on-name lectures in bilateral agreements with partner societies in Europe. The named lectures were set up on a reciprocal basis, which means that scientists are always invited in turn.

Assigning the names of the lectures

On the basis of mutual agreements, the partner companies honor renowned chemists with their lectures. The award awardee will be invited to a lecture tour in the partner country and will give a lecture at three universities or scientific institutions during this time.

The awards and invitations usually take place annually on an alternating basis between the participating companies.
