Heilbronn-Hückel Lecture

The Heilbronn-Hückel Lecture was agreed between the Swiss Chemical Society and the German Chemical Society and was founded in 2009. Professor Jürgen Troe from Göttingen was honored for the first time in 2010 and invited to Switzerland.

Professor Erich Hückel was a theoretical chemist in Marburg and is considered a pioneer in the field of quantum chemistry. Probably his most important scientific achievement is the formulation of the Hückel approximation and the resulting Hückel rule, which is known to every chemist today and is one of the fundamentals. It can be used to predict whether a chemical compound is aromatic.

The German-Swiss theoretical chemist Edgar Heilbronner worked intensively on the Hückel approximation developed by Hückel and published the idea of ​​aromatic compounds with Möbius strip topology in 1964. This type of aromatic was first synthesized in 2003.

Prof. Dr. Peter R. Schreiner is a chemist and holds the Liebig Chair at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen. His research covers various areas: organocatalysis, nanodiamonds (diamondoids), matrix isolation of reactive intermediates and computational chemistry. In addition, he is involved in the development of computer algorithms for predicting reaction mechanisms and modeling transition states in chemical reactions.

Markus Reiher is a chemist and professor of chemistry at ETH Zurich. His work focuses on theoretical chemistry and the calculation of electronic structures using quantum mechanics. His research has applications in various fields, including catalysis, materials science and computational chemistry. In addition, he is involved in the development of computer algorithms for predicting reaction mechanisms and modeling transition states in chemical reactions.

He will be visiting Paderborn, Münster and Bielefeld from 28 to 30 October.
