Liebig Association for Organic Chemistry

Who we are - what we do

Organic Chemistry is a major discipline in modern chemistry and in the natural sciences. It is at the heart of many highly topical research areas and ranges from Materials Science, catalysis and combinatorial chemistry to supramolecular and biological chemistry. The Liebig Association is the division of the GDCh that is dedicated to the topics of organic chemistry in the narrower as well as the broader sense. One of the main concerns is to awaken and strengthen awareness of the importance and potential of organic chemistry in modern natural sciences. The members of the Liebig Association develop activities on the following topics:

  • Public relations and further education for schools and universities, for teachers and students, for society and politics
  • Modernization and quality assurance of chemistry courses
  • Stimulating new fields of research and strengthening current research projects
  • Promotion of young academics and strengthening of international exchange programs
  • Strengthening the collaboration and exchange between universities and industry
  • Promotion of interdisciplinary contacts and projects
  • Strengthening and innovation for the scientific publication landscape
  • Strengthening and accentuating the areas of safety, environmental protection and sustainability

Board

The board consists of the chairman, his deputy and at least one, but not more than three assessors. more

ORCHEM Prize

The Liebig Association for Organic Chemistry awards the ORCHEM Prize for Young Scientists on current topics in the field to younger scientists who have qualified through new, original and pioneering scientific work in the field. more

Liebig Lectureship

In 1999 the Liebig Association set up a series of lectures - the Liebig Lectureship - for outstanding young foreign representatives of organic chemistry. more
