From Kiel to Constance, from Aachen to Dresden – in all regions of Germany, chemists are committed to their local section. The GDCh members regularly meet for colloquia at these spots of chemical research – usually located near universities or larger industrial centres. Scientists from Germany and abroad report on current research results, new methods, techniques and production processes, but also on modern management and future concepts. Every year, more than 650 lectures in the 60 local sections bring more than 35,000 people closer to chemistry. This includes numerous popular science lectures for a wider public.
The size of the local sections varies considerably and lies between 80 and 2000 members. Every local section has a chairman, which is elected by the members of the respective local section. The chairman represents the local section outward and makes suggestions in the scholarship and promotion system.
Many chairpersons have appointed contact persons to support them. Since some local sections support several universities and companies at the same time, they find ideal conditions for a brisk technology transfer. In addition, the representatives of the local sections are the first to contact for journalists, students and teachers.
